Vintage photograph of Philadelphia eye surgeon Dr. L. Webster Fox (1853 - 1931) in native regalia. Fox spent several summers during the 1920s among the Blackfeet people of Northwestern Montana fighting a trachoma epidemic by performing over 400 free eye surgeries. He was made an honorary member of the Blackfeet and given the name Ni’naa Piitaa - "Chief Eagle" due to the eagle's sight. Photo inscribed in ink and dated 1924, small pencil inscription lower right appears to be in the print. Framed, not examined out of frame.Visible image: approx. 11 1/2" x 7 3/4". Frame: approx. 12 3/4" x 8 3/4".
