Description
An original open-jawed chestburster prop as used in the James Cameron film Aliens (20th Century Fox, 1986).
This prop is composed of polyurethane foam with a isocylate outer coating that has been finished with acrylic paint, with scorch marks added near the base of the creature. The interior is lined with cotton to help maintain structure.
The chestburster creature appears at multiple points in the film, including during Ellen Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) nightmare in which she gives birth to an alien, and when Ripley and her team locate the missing member of LV-426, when a chestburster climbs through the missing person's chest. This film would show, for the first time, that adult chestbursters were equipped with arms and could climb their way out of their host. Stan Winston Studios provided the special effects and animatronic work for the chestburster creatures in this film.
Note: age cracks are present throughout.
