American, 1859-1872. United States Marine Corps parade/dress shako plate, in the early pin style that appears to be unissued surplus.
Shield: 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. (8.9 x 8.9 cm.), wreath: 3 1/2 x 5 3/4 in. (8.9 x 14.6 cm.)
From the Collection of John F. Bradbury, Jr., longtime archivist and director of the State Historical Society of Missouri?s Rolla Research Center in Phelps County. John was a historian specializing in the Civil War period with a dedicated and distinguished career to studying and promoting the history of the Missouri Ozarks region.
