Six Early Northeastern Railroad Books and Guides - 1855 Harper's Guide to the New York & Erie, A Message to Garcia, and More A small group of books and guides from the 1850s to 1920s for the Northeastern railroads of New York and Erie, New York Central Lines, New York and New England, and Delaware & Hudson. Includes a revised, eighth edition 1855 Harper's New York and Erie Rail-Road Guide Book by William Macleod with 188 pages of descriptions of the scenery, rivers, towns, villages on the road with 136 engravings by Lossing and Barritt, and a fold out map. The book has an embossed cover with the title in gold lettering along the spine and shows standard signs of wear with discoloration, worn edges, library sticker and writing marks in the front cover, creasing to the fold out map, and some staining to the first few and last few pages. A first of five-thousand copy of A Message to Garcia dated July 14, 1900 by Elbert Hubbard for the New York Central Passenger Department, with 35 pages, a map in the back, and gold page edge detail. The book is in good condition showing moderate wear to the cover edges, writing marks and a small tear to the first few pages, a few interior pages do show foxing. The cover has separated from the binding. An 1882 Literature of the Road Illustrated Scenes and Incidents on the Lines of the New York and New England Railroad by Oliver Craig with 112 pages and advertisements, missing the front cover. The book is in fair condition and shows discoloration and moderate tearing to the front and back pages. An early Delaware & Hudson Co. Literary and Historic Note-Book by Henry P. Phelps with 77 pages and color fold out map in fair condition. Both covers and the map have separated from the interior binding. The book shows general signs of use with discoloration, writing marks, and worn edges. A 1915 travel guide for New York Central Lines titled Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes with 30 pages of descriptions, photos, and a color map, in good condition showing discoloration to the cover, worn corners and edges, and minor tear to the center top crease. A hardbound One Hundredth Anniversary 1826 to 1926 of The New York Central Railroad with 63 pages of information and pictures related to the railroad. The book is in good condition showing moderate discoloration and edgewear to the cover. The interior pages appear to have been exposed to moisture along the top as many pages are slightly wavy at the top or show faint discoloration. See photos for best description.
