Benson Lossing was an American Journalist, Illustrator, and historian, known best for illustrated books on the American Revolution and American Civil War as well as features in Harpers Magazine. In 1846, Lossing joined William Barritt in a wood engraving business that became one of the largest firms in New York.
This 1851 first edition is heavily illustrated with 136 engravings by Lossing and Barritt.
