Signed 1994 Numbered 14/500. Approx. 12? high x 7.5?" wide at the base. Weighs 8 1/2
This piece, Aesculapius, is part of a trio of medical themed sculptures which include "Renaissance Surgeon" 1995 and "First Do No Harm" 1995.
Aesculapius did not sell out, however, no additional pieces will be produced in the future. On Covelle's passing, all molds have been destroyed to preserve the value of his work.
Covelle Jones - (American, b. 1936-2021) was a well-known Texan and Western artist. Listed as an Official State Artist of Texas- Covelle's works have often been compared to those of Frederick Remington.
Aesculapius, Greco-Roman god of medicine, son of Apollo (god of healing, truth, and prophecy) and the mortal princess Coronis. The Centaur Chiron taught him the art of healing. At length Zeus (the king of the gods), afraid that Asclepius might render all men immortal, slew him with a thunderbolt
