Description
An ancient Olmec mask from Pre Columbian America made of dark green jade. It is a mans face with a stern, hard expression. The mask has harshly carved facial features, eyes with drilling holes in the center of the pupil and the corners of the eyes. The same drill slits are in the nose, in the corners of the lips and on the sides of the face. The dark color of the stone adds a sense of intimidation. Comes with a heavy stand. The Olmecs flourished during Mesoamericas formative period, dating roughly from as early as 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE. They were the first Mesoamerican civilization, and laid many of the foundations for the civilizations that followed. South American Collectibles, Home Decor.
Dimensions: Mask 5 x 3 3/4 in. All measurements are approximate.
