Item Details
Description
Near East, Persia, Ray, Rhages Ware, ca. 12th to 14th century CE. A beautiful stoneware jar enveloped in brilliant turquoise glaze with vertical striations of deep blue and bands of black scrolling motifs. The vessel itself features a broad hip that narrows to a brief neck and slightly flared rim. A tubular handle arches vertically from just beneath the neck to the sloped shoulder. Size: 6" Diameter x 4.5" H (15.2 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Young collection, New Hampshire, USA, acquired before 2004

Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting in areas; all done very well and difficult to notice. Expected surface ware with some pitting and abrasions as shown. Otherwise, great presentation with nice craquelure to glaze. Old collection labels on underside.
