Gaietto, who was raised in Genoa in northern Italy, arrived in New York City in the fall of 1968."That was my dream," said Gaietto, who was always drawing even as a child. He liked to do comic strip cartoons. When he came to this country, for the first six months, he worked on the Archie comic strip for its publisher in New York City. After two years living in the city, he began attending the Art Students League, where he met Vernice, a fellow student who would become his wife. He later worked as an industrial designer. In 1979, Gaietto went to Maine for vacation and on his return, he discovered Cape Ann, and the historic Rocky Neck Art Colony, where he ran a small gallery for 14 years. He also ran a gallery in Rockport for a few years in the 1990s. The couple moved to New England permanently in 1996, settling in Rockport. When Gaietto retired, he had more time to paint and explore new ways to capture local scenes.
