Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 760 to 30 BCE. A hand-built faience ushabti covered in turquoise-hued glaze. Ushabti figures like this example - of minimalist design and without hieroglyphs - were oftentimes kept with dozens of other ushabti figures in a larger wooden box as a sizable offering for a deceased individual. Size: 0.73" L x 0.82" W x 3.48" H (1.9 cm x 2.1 cm x 8.8 cm)
Exhibited at the Drexel Museum, Philadelphia, 1895 to 1914, ref. no. 16.605; with the Drexel Institute Collection, Minneapolis Museum of Art, 1915 to 1958; at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1998 to 2023.

Condition
Light abrasions, with several spalls, and fading to glaze pigment, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form. Old MIA reference number handwritten on verso.
