Christ Pantocrator Russian Orthodox Christian Icon: realistically painted icon encased in an intricately engraved silver riza with gold colored plating.Christ is shown with a book of St. John[x=#8217/]s Gospel open to the following passage, written in Cyrillic: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another..." (John 13:34-35). The cartouche on the lower border contains an inscription in Cyrillic Russian: "Christ Pantocrator" Verso draped with pink velvet. Measures approximately 4.5" x 3.75", in a 6" x 5.5" gilt wood frame, seated inside a custom 6.5" x 6" x 2.25" dark brown wooden, glass top box with a brass latch and metal hangar on reverse top of the box. Hallmark is on bottom edge or foot and consists of a square with two letters, possibly Cyrillic, followed by a circle with the number "84" and a symbol that is difficult to see in full, but appears to be the horse and rider city mark for Moscow for the year 1896. The combined standard and city mark nearly identical to this was in use between 1882 and 1899. The Maker's Mark or Assayer's Mark appears to be a triangle followed by a letter resembling a capital "C". While Assayer Aleksandr Vladislavovich Skovronsky, who worked in Moscow 1895-1898 uses a similar mark resembling "AC", the only comparable example we could find had a dot between the letters and the date underneath.
