Two Large Christ Pantocrator Christian Icons: 1. Realistically painted icon encased in an engraved and repousse silver plated brass riza with brass halo. Greek Letters W O H repousse on halo meaning "He Who Is" Christ is shown with a crucifix. Verso draped with dark brown velvet. Measures approximately 11" x 9.25" unframed. Hallmark is on bottom edge or foot and consists of a square with three barely legible letters, resembling "MET". Because many antique silver plated items do not bear a hallmark, we believe the letters are a maker's mark. There appear to be cursive letters engraved horizontally on a raised oblong strip on each side of the bottom of the halo, level with the mouth/chin area, but most of the lettering is illegible due to wear or rub. We can make out a B at the beginning of the lettering on the right side. Inspect images carefully for condition and further detail.2. Painting of Christ Pantocrator shows craquelure, unknown if authentic or artificial. Measures approximately 12" x 10.25". The image of Christ is in a blessing position in full frontal figure, with an intensely expressive face.The Gospel is open, held in his left hand, while with the right hand he blesses with the ring finger and thumb joined. In the halo, there are the typical Greek letters that indicate ''He who is''. The face of this Christ is represented in a realistic way, characterized by a golden riza with white metal accents and raised polychrome enamel halo in blue, white, pink, green and yellow. Verso draped with light brown velvet. No hallmark or maker's mark is present. Overall a very attractive icon, but condition shows wear and riza is dented in places. Inspect photos carefully for condition and detail.
