Description
Swat Valley, Ca. 1200 BC.A Gandhara Grave Culture jar featuring a large rounded body, raising from a short, flat foot. The vessel narrows at the neck and flares out and upwards to form a large, funnel-shaped mouth. A stylised face is depicted at the front of the piece, displaying a tall aquiline nose and a long brow rendered by a continuous arched ridge. Three holes are pierced to render the eyes and mouth; possibly an abstract representation of the deceased.
