LOUIS ERNEST BARRIAS (FRENCH, 1841-1905)The Scarf Dancer, late 19th centuryPatinated and parcel gilt bronze figure, cast from a model and depicting a naked woman dancing with a long scarf above her head, integral bronze base, raised on a contemporary cut corner, veined, rouge marble square plinth.62 cm highSigned in the cast E. Barrias and Susses Fres Edt, with Paris foundry roundel.Footnotes:ProvenanceBonhams, London, 'Period Design', 8 April 2014, lot 223With the previous owner's family in Germany in the 1930s, taken to England immediately prior to the outbreak of the WW2 in 1939
Condition
There are scratches and scuffs to the patina on the scarf. A few small scratches here and there. Rubbing in places, patina rubbed and worn on her out stretched toe and foot. Some dust in crevices. Some nicks to edges of the marble base, but it does have a bronze rim at the bottom.
