Description
Lovely copy in extremely nice dust jacket. Autobiography of the woman who in 1912 founded the famous monthly "Poetry: A Magazine of Verse," which immediately became the focus of one of the most brilliant literary movements the United States had ever seen. In her book Miss Monroe takes the reader from the later Victorian days of London, New York, and Chicago--the literary world of Gilder, James, Stedman; the stage of Booth, Ada Rehan, Coquelin; the artistic influence of Whistler, Ryder, and the Impressionists--through the turbulent decades of the "New Poetr," and shows her continuing enthusiasm for the new movements of her later years. Her correspondence with the poets of the times--Lindsay, Sandburg, Pound, Masters, Robinson, Stevens, and many others--alone makes the book a valuable document and a most attractive and dramatic literary autobiography. Published 1938 by MacMillan Co. (first printing) Barest whisper of rubbing to lower edges. Minor tanning to text block. Nickel-size stain to lower spine, else fine. Clipped dust jacket ($5.00 price still present) has minor chipping at head of spine and a couple of minor tears. A beauty. 6.5 x 9.5 488 pp., indexed.
