Description
A Bocio double image set into a Asen ritual staff, Fon peoples, Togo / Dahomey, West Africa. featuring a pair of carved spirit idols set into a ritual Asen staff, which were created to honor ancestor spirits of Vodun shrines. Embellished with animal horns , coins and a rope binding the idols together and the entire piece ic covered in organic matter from blood sacrifice. The Staff measures 22 inches tall on its 5 x 5 inch professional base. Provenance: Published on page 81 in the Book House of the Spirit, The Danny Simmons collection by Donna Page, and was exhibited at the QCC Museum and Gallery in New York City, March-May 2010. Ex Daniel Simmons collection, Philadelphia.
