Description
Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumerian to Old Babylonian, ca. late 3rd to mid-2nd millennium BCE. A set of 3 hand-carved stone cylinder seals, 2 carved from hematite and 1 from limestone. The limestone seal is decorated with incised linear motifs while the 2 larger, darker seals exhibit scenes of abstract zoomorphic creatures interacting - for better or worse - with standing human figures. Size of largest: 1.25" L x 0.48" W x 0.46" H (3.2 cm x 1.2 cm x 1.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York

Limestone seal has softening to most incised decorations, and darker seals have moderate softening to finer details, otherwise all 3 seals are intact and very good. Nice preservation to most incised decorations on darker seals.
