Description
This is a late 19th century sculpture of a rider on a horse and known locally as a Bhuta figure. The effigy of a divine spirit or Daiyva of a four armed male warrior and a local cultural hero worshipped as a part of Bhuta Kola. The rider is shown wearing a crown, earrings, His horse is shown festively decorated across its head and neck with incised linear designs on the base. This bronze has 2 movable parts – It is a detachable piece.A Bhuta is a divine ethereal spirit that is believed to protect and promote the welfare of its worshippers. The bronze was likely worshipped on shrines (Sthaana) as representations of the Bhuta spirits. The sculpture measures 5.5 x 3.5 x 2 inches. Provenance: Ex Robert Banks collection, Maryland, USA.
