Description
ETERNA WATCHES
Swiss Advertising Poster (27.5" x 39")
Fine Folded; Artist Fred Dubois
C.1930s
This simple yet effective vintage 1930s Art Deco advertising poster for the luxury watch company Eterna is unique in that even though the poster itself is Swiss, the artist Fred Dubois is French and the poster is a German language version.
This poster has had some light restoration work to both folds and some tears. But there is still both edge and fold wear, including small tears and tanning. A piece that is a perfect candidate for linen backing.
The Swiss luxury watch-making company that would become Eterna was founded in 1856 by Dr. Joseph Girard and Urs Schild to hand-manufacture the inner workings of watches. Due to this modernization, the company found itself at the forefront of watch development, patenting its first alarm wristwatch in 1908, the first of many innovations it would introduce during its lifetime, including an eight-day watch in 1929 and the first affordable self-winding watch, released in 1948.
This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.
