Description
Chinese Carved Jade Bell, probably Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), is exquisitely carved with a hollow cavity for the bell. A mythical creature, the Qilin, is mounted on the top. Qilins, half dragons and half-horses, were said to appear during virtuous imperial reigns. Dragons, carved in relief on the sides of the bell are imperial symbols of power and authority. Apprx 2-3/4"T x 1-3/4"W. From the collection of Juliane and Philip Lynch, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
