Description
Chinese Hardstone Shi-Shi Lion, probably Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) in date, is a finely carved miniature sculpture of the protective lion. The crouching form is carved to show the beauty of the stone; half of the sculpture is brown and the other light green. Details of the tail and eyes are finely rendered. Deep carving into the stone even provides the illusion that the mouth is partially open. Probably intended for a scholar's desk in his studio.
