Description
A minimalistic and highly stylized figure with cylindrical head over widening torso and legs with no discernible features other than male genitalia as a phallic idol from the Dagari / Lobi tribe of Burkina Faso, west Africa. Once carved such idols were placed among other objects of veneration on the family altar and received sacrificial libations including the blood and other byproducts of a slaughtered chickens were offered on the altar. This example is quite large and measures 37.5 x 13.5 x 5 inches. Provenance: A private Pennsylvania collection since the late 1990s.
