Description
An 18th century Dutch silver tobacco box
Leendert A Beekhuis, Amsterdam, 1746
Of oblong form with moulded borders, engraved with two figures gesturing towards a seascape with merchant ships, the base similarly engraved with figures looking out to a seascape, the front side and reverse engraved with inscriptions, basket weave and ship engraving to the angles, the hinged inside cover opening to reveal an engraved monogram AVV amongst fronds, 13cm wide, 6.5cm deep, 3cm high (5in wide, 2 1/1in deep, 1 in high), weight 6.08 troy oz, weight 188.8gms.

Hallmarks inside base clear, maker's mark a little weaker but distinguishable.
Surfaces rubbed and remain bright.
Overall uneven surface wear, engraving rubbed but remains defined, underside with more smoothing to the surface at a couple of small points through surface contact, but overall remains clear.
General more surface wear to the shaped corners, wearing inwards a points.
Solder repair, to the bottom inside front.
Interior surface appears to have the surface plated over.
