COMMENTS: Matsumoto collaborated on a series of old-school Woodblockprints with a modern twist in the form of his own characters and vehicles. This carving features Harlock's ship Arcadia sailing over Katsushika Hokusai's "Great Wave off Kanagawa" with a ringed planet in the background. This is one of the six works that were made in limited sets of 1,000 prints and were selling from ¥95,000 each in 2017. The Woodblockprints were produced in collaboration with Kyoto-based Woodblockstudio Team-Hirota, and Engraver Kazuki Nojima and Printer Kenji Takenaka.

REIJI MATSUMOTO1938-2023) was a Japanese manga artist, and creator of several anime and manga series. Matsumoto was famous for his space operas such as Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999. His style was characterized by mythological and often tragic storylines with strong moral themes, noble heroes, feminine heroines, and a love of strange worlds and melancholic atmosphere.
