Description
Model 1755 Dutch Infantry Musket, second half of the 18th century. 43 1/4 in., .80 caliber barrel with ring decoration at the breech, the top engraved 'RT OPDE MAAS'; convex lock plate with partially legible marking below the rounded pan; walnut stock with raised carving around the lock mortice and side plate plateau, later-carved cheek rest on the left side of the comb; brass furniture including butt plate with tang secured by two screws, trigger guard with pointed finials, oval thumb piece engraved 'A-[-]/N-84,' convex 'S' side plate, iron upper barrel band and brass middle and lower barrel bands, later steel rammer. Overall lg. 38 3/8 in. CONDITION: Barrel slightly shortened, iron toned to deep brown, breech with moderate pitting; lock functions properly; stock has sliver losses along the barrel channel, brass toned to deep yellow, upper band replaced, missing third band.
