Manchester, GA, 4 April 1928. 6 1/8 x 2 3/4 in. partially printed check drawn on the Bank of Manchester. Payable to "E.T. Curtis, Manager" for the sum of $25. Small punch cancellation through check (light creasing). The check is accompanied by a typed cover letter signed by Stephen Early, Assistant Secretary to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, addressed to Mary Atwood. The White House, Washington, 11 February 1937. 1 page, 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 in., "The White House, Washington" letterhead, folds. Early conveys "one of the President's cancelled checks" to Miss Atwood.ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. (1882-1945). Personal check signed ("Franklin D. Roosevelt"). The check is accompanied by a typed cover letter signed by M.A. LeHand, Private Secretary and Gatekeeper to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, addressed to Mary Atwood. The White House, Washington, 25 January 1937. 1 page, 6 1/4 x 9 3/4 in., "The White House, Washington" letterhead, folds. LeHand conveys the canceled check to Miss Atwood. [With:] ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. (1882-1945), and ROOSEVELT, Anna Eleanor (1884-1962). 8 x 10 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount, signed ("Eleanor Roosevelt") and ("Franklin D. Roosevelt,") showing Mary Atwood Pool's 20-month-old son at the White House Easter Egg Roll (some fading to Eleanor Roosevelt's signature, some edgewear to print). A Washington Post reporter had taken the photograph of the toddler and Ms. Pool later sent the photograph to the White House asking that it be signed. [Also with:] Two 8 x 10 silver gelatin photographs of Franklin D. Roosevelt (very fine condition overall, minimal edge wear). -- 8 x 10 in. photograph, mounted on board and matted, showing President and Mrs. Roosevelt during the 1941 Inaugural Parade (printed later). Applied paper label on mount verso with imprint of Capital Images, Inc., Washington, DC, manuscript description, and image number "505." Together, 8 items associated with Franklin D. Roosevelt.Provenance: Descended directly in the family of Mary Atwood Pool (1914-2009). Washington, DC, resident Mary Atwood Pool began collecting autographs of notable American historical figures at the age of 14, with each autograph acquired by her direct communication with the historical figure, their staff, family members, or attorneys.
