Description
An increasingly rare find, volumes one and two of ‘XI. Olympiade Berlin 1936 Amtlicher Bericht’ (‘XI Olympics Berlin 1936 Official Report’) (Berlin: Wilhelm Limpert), 1937. 642pp. and 580pp., 4to., beige cloth with gilt designs. The books are certainly the most extensive summation of the 1936 Olympics, covering the history of the event, the event's proceedings and medal tables, the results of many competitions, and complete with a large number of photographs. The initial pages include full-page portraits of notable individuals within the Third Reich with quotations on the adjoining page, including Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goering, Reichs Sports Leader Hans von Tschammer und Osten, and others. Later pages bear the names and portraits of other Olympic committee members, including Hans Pfundtner, Walther Funk, Dr. Leonardi Conti, and numerous other Generals, Ministers, and Polizeipresidents within the Third Reich. Stained covers and slight separation of the spine on both pieces.
