A very fine uniform for a Falange Political Officer from the Spanish Civil War, consisting of dress shirt, necktie, vest, jacket, trousers, and visor cap. The short sleeve white cotton dress shirt is secured closed by seven off-white buttons at the front. The black wool/gabardine vest is silk-lined with four black buttons at the front, unmarked. Matching the vest is a black wool/gabardine jacket, secured closed at the front by four black buttons. The jacket features four flap-pockets at the front and scalloped cut stitching at the cuffs. The shoulders show slight discoloration from use and bear black epaulets with red piping. Affixed to the top right pocket is a medal bar, consisting of: Iron Cross, Second Class; Blue Division Medal; War Merit Cross with Swords; Eastern Medal; Medal of the Russian Campaign; and a commemorative medal honoring the fallen and P.O.W.s of the Blue Division. Under the opposite pocket is a breast patch of the Falange political party, depicting a yoke and arrows in red thread. Above the same pocket is an aluminum badge, the Spanish Foreign Jump Wings, showing wings sprouting from a red medallion with a parachute at the center, and the Spanish crown at the top. Wrapped around the left sleeve is a Falange armband, embroidered in red thread with crossed swords. Adding to the attractiveness is a purple victory sash with two tassels at the ends, held together by a bronze clasp bearing the dates ‘1936-1939’. The black, pleated pants are held closed by five buttons, unmarked, in fine condition. The dark blue visor cap is in excellent condition, of wool construction, featuring a metal Falange party emblem on a velvet backing, sewn to the peak. The band and visor are decorated with five wave-like rows of gilt bullion embroidering. Complete with a slightly dulled gilt chinstrap, secured to either side by two bronze Falange insignia buttons. The brown leather sweatband of the interior remains intact and is marked ‘Hyade Jesus Kartines Mayor Madrid’, further marked with the size ‘43’. At the center is a rectangle celluloid sweatshield, with the maker mark for ‘Jesus Kartines’. The blue silk lining bears a minor 2 in. tear, else very good. Overall, this uniform bears very minor wear and would make a wonderful presentation piece. Accompanied by an American made white shirt, tie, and watch for to complete the uniform, for appearance only.
