Marcus Manilius was a first century Roman poet known for his famous collection of astrological poetry Astronomica. This book is thought to be the first extensive work on astronomy and astrology describing various celestial phenomena and great detail on the zodiac. It also considers many of the celestial theories proposed by Xenophanes and Hesiod and their perceptions of creation. Other topics of discussion include formation of constellations, placement of sun and moon, emphasis on the Milky Way, exploration of comets and meteors as an omen for earthly disasters and plagues.
This 1767 was published in Strasburg by Amandi Konig and includes the highly coveted frontispiece of the all-seeing eye!
