Four Victorian Provincial Constabulary Truncheons
19th Century
Each of hardwood and painted in polychrome and gilt against blackened ground, the first with royal arms above 'VR' and 'PENZANCE No. 7' in a circle, and with ribbed swelling grip; the second with a crown and foliage, the former above a cartouche painted 'HARLEPOOL BOROUGH POLICE', and with ribbed swelling gip, in its sprung leather holster, the flap indistinctly stamped 'FIELD'S PATENT' (some old crazing); the third with crown above 'V.R.', a band painted with 'LIVERPOOL' and a Liver Bird crest, and with turned swelling grip; the last with crown over 'VR', 'GRIMSBY e' and the arms of the city, and with tapering grip with cone-shaped terminal (4)
