An impressive enormous 17th-century folio!
This enormous tome is a printing of Pedro de Ribadeneira famed Flos Sanctorum or more commonly, Lives of Saints. Ribadeneira, a Jesuit historian, was fascinated with the successors of Saint Loyola and, from this interest, gathered biographies of seemingly every possible saint, martyr, monk and hermit, important bible figure, archbishop, and pope imaginable.
This absolutely huge tome contains descriptions of hundreds and hundreds of figures from Saint Paul and Peter, to John Calybite, Pope Gregory the Great, Saint Antonius of Florence, Saint Boniface, and even the virgin Mary. Note the stunning full-page engravings displaying iconic saints and martyrs.
