Description
A French Neoclassical Style Gilt and Patinated Bronze Portico Clock, Retailed by J. E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, 19th Century. The circular enamel dial having Roman numerals and inscribed 'J. E. Caldwell & Co.', the twin train movement with nine-bar gridiron pendulum striking on a bell, backplate with stamped 'MADE IN FRANCE' and 'J. E. CALDWELL & CO. PHILADELPHIA'. Together with a similar French Neoclassical style alabaster portico clock, raised on an associated marquetry inlaid and ebonized plinth base.
Dimensions: Height 19 1/2in; width 11in; depth 5 3/4in and Height 17 1/2in; width 11 3/4in; depth 7 3/4in.
Condition
We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of either clock movements. The alabaster with clock lacking elements to the plinth base, with scattered losses, chips, cracks, surface dirt and heavy wear throughout. The bronze clock with toning and darkening to the surface overall. Each with a pendulum and with winding keys.
