Description
Egypt, mid-Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 2ndcentury BCE to 3rd century CE. A charming mold-made pottery whistle in the form of a theater mask, the mouth / vent hole on the top and the interior is hollow for emitting one loud pitch. Perhaps a toy to entertain, or perhaps a tool used to signal or direct during theater performances - although there is no well-documented evidence to substantiate this idea. A rare and interesting piece! Size: 1.5" W x 1.5" H (3.8 cm x 3.8 cm)
