The real deal. 45 caliber single shot pocket pistol made by the original Philadelphia gunmaker - Henry Deringer - (one R in the name). The guns were so popular that knock-offs became prolific with the copy cats signing their products DERRINGER (two R-s). The name Derringer became synonymous with all pocket size pistols. This has continued to the point that all such little handguns are referred to as derringers (two R-s in the name), and to this date the dictionary spelling is now derringer with 2 R-s.

This is the classic medium size Henry Deringer pocket pistol fitted with a short under rib on the barrel and a ramrod channel. (ramrod not present) Marked "DERINGER/PHILADELA" at the breech and on the lock. Breech also has letter P in a sunburst. The lock, upper tang, and German silver furniture have primarily scroll and floral pattern engraving that is very nicely executed. The bird's head stock has checkering on the wrist. This is very similar to the gun John Wilkes Booth used to shoot Abraham Lincoln.
