Shepard Hardware Company. Buffalo, New York - Pat.'d 1887. In the Mason Bank, racism and visual racial slurring is right under our nose. The bricklayer, with his bulging muscles and bushy mustache, is meant as a depiction of Italian immigrants. While the hod carrier, with his flaming orange hair and his leprechaun physiognomy is clearly a bigoted reference of the Irish.
