Native American, Southwestern United States, Apache people, 1950s CE. A woven wicker water basket that exhibits a piriform body with a braided finger handle and a flared rim. Water baskets like this example were covered in thick, sticky pitch to seal the innumerable gaps between the woven strands to mitigate and altogether halt any leakage of the liquid contained within. Size: 4" W x 5.875" H (10.2 cm x 14.9 cm)

Minor chipping and desiccation to pitch, with light fraying to some wicker fibers, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form.
