Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Mississippian, ca. 200 BCE to 800 CE. A wonderful pottery pitcher displaying a bulbous body, a sloped shoulder, a conical neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a flat base. A strap handle with a nub-like adornment at the top connects the rim to the shoulder, while the exterior is enveloped in a rich black slip. The body is further decorated by an incised design of a maze-like motif filled with diagonal, horizontal, and vertical striations. Size: 3.9" Diameter x 5" H (9.9 cm x 12.7 cm)
