Description
Tiger maple case clock with painted enamel face and brass clockwork. [Forestville, Connecticut]: E.N. Welch Manufacturing Co. Overall 25 1/4 x 15 1/4 x 4 inches. Original printed manufacturer's label to interior. "C.F. Senft" inscribed in ink to enamel clock face. Modern white ink inscription reads, "Purchased from Donald Mays, October 2017."
Elisha N. Welch (1809-1887) took over the bankrupt J.C. Brown clockmaking business around 1856 and began producing clocks under the the name E.N. Welch. He formed a joint stock corporation on 6 July 1864 under the name E.n. Welch Manufacturing Company.
