Footnote
Elizabeth Breese Hazard was born in New York City to Ebenezer and Abigail Arthur Hazard of Philadelphia. She married Ebenezer Rockwood (1781-1815), a Harvard graduated and Boston attorney in 1807. The couple had four children. Upon the early death of her husband, Elizabeth moved to New Haven. In 1822, she married Reverend Thomas Edward Vermilye (1803-1893) of New York City. The couple had five children. Elizabeth died in New York City.

lot 50: lined, but appears to have been done some a while ago; some scattered retouching and some areas of green fluorescence indicative of old varnish, seen under UV light; frame is period, with some minor loss and evident retouching commensurate with age; stretcher verso retaining old labels
