Description
A receipt dated January 10th, 1890 from The Canton Electric Light and Power Company of Canton, Ohio for the rental of 2 Arc Lights from mid December, 1889 to January 1st - a total of 14 nights - for a total of $21.00. As "electric bills" go, this has to be one of the earliest in existence - as the entire industry evolved from the gas and electric carbon-arc commercial and street lighting business which began around 1880 when Edison's Pearl Street power station was generating electricity in lower Manhattan. This invoice would place it only 9 years after Edison's company began - which shows how fast the industry spread. Receipt reads "J. N. Kelley, Manager" and is signed by the rentor and the recipient of payment.
Condition
Receipt has 6 holes where 3 staples were attached. Creases where folded twice. A penciled in price of "15" dollars was written in pencil in the top right corner. Please review scans closely for further condition and please let us know if you have any questions prior to bidding.
