British soldier in France.- Pearson (John, sergeant, of 43rd Regiment (Monmouthshire Light Infantry) of Infantry) Long Autograph Letter signed to his sister Betsy Phillips in Plymouth, 3pp. and address panel, folio, Valenciennes, France, 30th November 1817, on the allied occupation of France after the downfall of Napoleon, "a General Court Martial that has been held on a man of ours for Deserting and Inlisting into the French Service I believe he will be shot, the Man and Woman I mentioned... for starving the Children have been tried, the Man was Sentenced to Imprisonment for Life & the Woman be burnt", remains of black wax seal, small tears along folds, browned; and 2 others (3).
