Description
BOEING X-20 DYNA-SOAR SPACEPLANE CONTRACTOR'S CONCEPT PROPOSAL MODEL. Mixed material on wood base, c.2000, wingspan 6 inches, fuselage 8 1/2 inches, 11 inches tall, plaque on base reads: 'United States Air Force / X-20 Dyna-Soar / Boeing.' X-20 Dyna-Soar development began under a U.S. Air Force program to develop a spaceplane capable of a variety of missions such as aerial reconnaissance, bombing, space rescue, satellite repair, etc. The X-20 was designed to orbit the Earth and also have the ability to land on an airfield. The program was cancelled just as construction began. The spaceplane concepts would eventually be realized with the Space Shuttle—as well as the more recent Boeing X-40 and X-37B.
