Description
BOEING X-48C BWB CONTRACTOR'S CONCEPT MODEL. Mixed material on wood base, PacMin, c.2010, wingspan 17 7/8 inches, fuselage 9 inches, 7 1/2 inches tall, wood base is blank, with original box. Boeing's X-48 was an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) built for NASA to investigate the characteristics of blended wing body aircraft. The full-size X-48A was never built, but two examples of the X-48B, an 8.5% scale version, were built and tested. The X-48C was a two-engine version (vs. 3) with twin tails, intended to test a low-noise design. The present 1/13 scale model was commissioned by Boeing to promote the blended wing body (BWB) configuration to the U.S. Air Force.
