Including three sets of finely embroidered panels (one set sewn together; one tacked together), including butterfly, fu dog, crane, and peacock motifs; and a blue silk butterfly embroidered garment trim/border. Condition: overall good; soiling/staining to the white silk panels. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
