Description
The vintage hand-sewn group consists of an embroidered "apron" of two panels and a side tie, decorated with metal disks; together with a small "flag" with embroidered and applique figure and metal disks; a child's dragon applique hat with side tassels; a baby's collar/bib with butterfly embroidery; and a red wool panel with blue and white floral embroidery (53 1/2in x 15in). FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
