"Modern biographies have tended to not mention Franklin's Masonic attachments , and have left out much of the whimsical life he led as a Printer of popular history and tracts. This book if filled with just such materials. His evolution of materials in Richard's Almanac becomes more practical and less politically polemic with time, which the author takes time to describe and explain. Franklin’s decisions at times seem intuitive and yet he towered above his competitors in understanding the value of the written word. His network of family related printers in major cities was crucial in information sharing during the revolutionary War, for instance, let alone was the equivalent of modern distribution network for his Almanac and Gazette, ensuring his success. Highly recommended as a primary source work." [a private review].
