Item Details
Description
Featured in this lot is a framed original lithograph of Joan Miro's painting done by Fernand Mourlot, circa 1965. From L'Atelier Mourlot: Lithographies De L'atelier comes this lovely lithograph. The Redfern Gallery in London published the piece between December 1965 and January 1966. There were only 1150 printed copies of the publication. In the introduction, Jean Adhemar stated, "Fernand Mourlot, one of the most renowned lithograph printers of today, presents for us here an exhibition of works from his great press—original lithographs, and posters by young painters of the School of Paris, works by Frenchman, English, and Americans." The renowned Spanish artist Joan Miró (1893–1983) produced innovative and significant works that had a major impact on Abstract and Surrealist art in the 20th century. Miró, who was born in Barcelona, started exploring his artistic side at a young age, studying in Madrid before immersing himself in Paris's thriving art community. Early works showed Cubist and Fauvist influences, but he eventually developed a unique style distinguished by biomorphic forms, dreamy imagery, and vibrant color use. Miró's art frequently emerged spontaneously from his subconscious, embracing automatism and Surrealist principles, and produced whimsical and abstract compositions packed with recurring symbols like stars, birds, and celestial bodies. His legacy extends to sculpture and ceramics, and his international acclaim solidified his place as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The lithograph shows bright vivid colors of green, orange, red, yellow, purple, blue and black splattered over the canvas with thin black lines cutting through in some areas. The artist's signature can be seen in the bottom left corner in black lettering. The piece is single matted and set in a wood frame. The piece shows good condition overall with no signs of wear or damage present. The visible art measures 9 7/16" L x 6 7/8" W. The entire piece measures 19" L x 14 7/8" W x 1 3/8" D. The piece weighs approximately 2lb 12oz.*
