Pavel Fedorovich Schwartz (1879-1934) "Antique battle", watercolor, 1910s
Pavel Fedorovich Schwartz was born in 1875 (or 1879), in Odessa. He was a well-known Ukrainian graphic and theater artist.
After graduating from the Odessa Richelieu Gymnasium, he studied (1895-1899) at the Faculty of Law of Novorossiysk University in Odessa. In 1902 he moved to Paris, where he studied for two years at the Academie Vitti.
In 1905 and between 1911 - 1919 he participated in the exhibitions of the Association of South Russian Artists (from 1916 - its member). He also took part in the lottery exhibition of 1914 and the exhibition of the "Independents" in 1918.
In 1921 he worked as an artist in the 1st Odessa Territorial Military District. In 1922 he became one of the founders of the KK Kostandi Society of Artists and for five years, from 1925, exhibited at all of its annual autumn exhibitions. From 1923 to 1934 he was a First Secretary and expert of the Odessa Museum Foundation. From 1923 to 1925 he worked as an artist at an agricultural research station.
He produced studies and compositions based on fairy tales "One Thousand and One Nights", Greek mythology. From 1926 to 1933 he took part in the restoration of the Odessa Opera House after the 1925 fire. He was the author of stage design and costumes for opera performances "Aida", "Don Carlos", "Lohengrin", "Carmen", "The Boors" ("Samoduri"), etc.
He died in Odessa, in 1934 (Wikipedia, translated from Ukrainian).
