8 1/2’ Montagne “Prototype” Quadrate Fly Rod

Item Details

Description

This rare 2/2 prototype “Mastery 7” bamboo rod by California maker Michael Montagne is in excellent condition with mild ridging of the cork and mild sets. Unique to Montagne’s rods is a ‘skeleton’ reel seat with exposed bamboo and a threaded 1/2” cylinder with a screw up-locking nut. Also unique is that his male ferrules do not have moisture caps but are hollow and partially filled with epoxy. When assembled, the ferrules are too tight to seat fully and one tip ferrule has a click when pulled apart. Inked on the top flat is: “M. Montagne” and on the bottom flat is: Prototype Mastery 7 3270”. Etched on top of the tube cap is: Prototype Mastery 7 3270”. A brass ferrule plug, original blue bag (signed by Montagne), and brown crinkle-finished tube complete this rod.
