Tim Peterson (b. 1951) Oil on canvas on board painting "The Oldest Wooden School House" in St. Augustine, Florida. Signed lower left and also on verso with title and dated March 2009. Measures 16" x 12" and 22" x 18" w/ frame. The Oldest Wooden School House was made completely by hand and dates to the early 18th century. Built while Florida was under the rule of Imperial Spain, the house was constructed of red cedar and cypress and put together with wooden pegs and handmade nails. The building originally had no electricity, no running water, no kitchen, or bathroom. The schoolmaster and his wife lived upstairs above the small classroom.
